Description
This late 19th-century maritime seascape is an oil on canvas depicting several sailing vessels with ochre-colored sails at low tide along a shoreline. The composition features figures scattered across the beach and a stone harbor pier to the right under a hazy, atmospheric sky. The work is signed and dated EDINEAN 1891 in the lower right corner. The reverse of the canvas bears a manufacturer’s stamp from Winsor & Newton, Limited, London. The painting is presented in a wide, ornate, dark-finished frame with a neutral-toned liner.

Condition report:
Visible condition issues include significant craquelure throughout the sky and lighter painted areas. Surface undulations are present across the canvas. A large rectangular stain is visible on the reverse of the canvas. The frame exhibits minor wear and a small separation at one corner. Art is from a clean smoke free home.
