Lot 71:
Description
This Japanese woodblock print is attributed to the artist Kawanabe Kyosai and depicts the traditional subject of Bijin and Shoki. The composition features a bearded figure in ornate robes holding a paper parasol over a woman dressed in a traditional patterned kimono, accompanied by a smaller attendant carrying a basket. The print is set within a dark blue silk-textured mat and housed in a rectangular gilt-wood frame with a black-finished outer edge. A gallery label for Howard/Mandville Gallery with locations in Kirkland and Edmonds, Washington, is affixed to the reverse. No artist signature or seal is visible on the print surface.
Frame: 16.5 x 23 inches.
Condition report:
The artwork is in good overall condition. The frame shows minor surface wear to the gilt and black finishes. There is a significant tear in the black backing paper at the lower-right corner, which reveals the interior frame construction. Art is from a clean smoke free home.
