Description

A 20th-century rocking chair manufactured by the Conant Ball Furniture Company of Gardner, Massachusetts. This piece features a traditional Windsor-style design with a fan-back or comb-back configuration. Seven slender spindles extend from the seat to a curved crest rail, while an additional five spindles support a steam-bent continuous armrail. The chair is constructed with oak spindles, rails, and rockers, and features a thick, contoured solid wood seat. It is supported by four turned legs joined by a simple H-stretcher. The underside of the seat bears a circular brand with the text CONANT BALL along the top and FURNITURE MAKERS along the bottom. Inside the circle is a stylized monogram of the letters CB with the year 1852. Black ink stamps are also present on the underside, displaying the numbers 3601 and 11067.

Condition report:

The chair is in good structural condition but exhibits significant surface wear consistent with regular use. The seat shows numerous surface scratches and abrasions. The finish on the tops of the armrests and the back crest rail is thinned and worn. Minor scuffs and marks are present on the legs and rockers. Several small white paint droplets are visible on the underside of the seat. Clean, no smell home.
