Description
This oil painting on canvas depicts a realist genre scene set within an interior. The composition features an elderly woman seated by a window, consoling a younger woman who is kneeling with her head in the older woman’s lap. The background includes a wooden table covered with a white cloth and a meal. The work is signed S. Faust and dated 1910 in the lower-left corner. The painting is housed in a carved, gold-toned wooden frame with a linen liner. The reverse reveals a wooden stretcher with corner keys and a wire hanging mount. Staining and foxing are visible on the unprimed canvas back.
Width: 36 inches (outer frame).
Condition report:
The paint surface exhibits fine craquelure and surface grime. The carved frame shows minor nicks and wear to the gilded finish. The unprimed canvas on the reverse displays light staining and foxing. See images for condition. Art is from a clean smoke free home.
