Description

This framed Chinese embroidery is executed in the traditional human hair embroidery technique known as Moxiu. The central scene depicts Princess Wencheng and her attendants in courtly attire, rendered with fine line work. A calligraphic inscription at the upper right identifies the subject as Princess Wencheng, accompanied by a red artist seal. The composition and figure style are in the manner of the Eighty-Seven Immortals, a work traditionally attributed to the Tang dynasty artist Wu Daozi. The embroidery is mounted within a patterned gold-tone silk mat and housed in a dark-lacquered wood frame featuring decorative brass-tone hangers. The reverse includes a handwritten label identifying the medium as human hair and a printed label stating Made in China.

Width: 37 inches.

Condition report:

The embroidery appears well-preserved behind glass with no visible signs of fading or thread loss. The wood frame shows visible signs of wear, including minor chipping and abrasions along the edges and corners. Art is from a clean smoke free home.
