Description
This lot features a diverse group of vintage O-gauge model railroading equipment primarily manufactured by the Lionel Corporation and American Flyer. The collection includes components constructed from cast metal, lithographed tinplate, and die-cast alloys, with electrical housings made of bakelite or early plastics. Locomotives and tenders consist of a Lionel Commodore Vanderbilt streamlined steam locomotive shell, a steam locomotive with Central Vermont and Canadian National decals, and a black Lionel Lines tender featuring the Canadian Pacific Railway logo. Rolling stock includes a Lionel No. 657 Northern Pacific red caboose, a Lionel No. 553 Middle States Oil/Santa Fe silver tanker car, a Lionel No. 554 Northern Pacific/General Coal Co. hopper car in yellow and red, an American Flyer Lines red caboose, a red observation car numbered 530, and a green gondola marked A.F.L. Electrical equipment is highlighted by a high-capacity Lionel Type Z Trainmaster Transformer, rated at 250 watts and 115 volts, featuring four independent control knobs. Additional electrical components include two Lionel No. 021 Illuminated Switches and a Lionel Whistle/Reverse controller. Accessories include an American Flyer Railroad Crossing sign and a substantial quantity of three-rail O-gauge track in both straight and curved sections. Visible markings include manufacturers’ stamps, model numbers, and railway company decals as described.
Condition report:
Items are in well-used condition with significant signs of age and wear. Most pieces exhibit extensive paint loss, chipping, and surface scratches. Heavy oxidation and rust are present on the track rails, switch bases, and various metal undercarriages. A critical condition note includes advanced intercrystalline corrosion, commonly known as zinc pest, affecting the drive wheels of one locomotive, which show severe cracking and crumbling of the metal. Electrical components are untested; the wiring is aged and may be brittle. Some pieces are partially disassembled or missing components. The collection is sold as-is for restoration or parts - with that being said, this seller most likely had everything functioning and in very good working order, we did not test it.
