Description
This lot consists of two contemporary hand-built Native American Pueblo pottery sculptures from New Mexico. The first item is an Acoma Pueblo architectural scene featuring a tiered white structure situated on a bulbous base with a corrugated horizontal texture often referred to as a corn husk pattern. The structure is populated with seven small human figures and a dog, all hand-modeled and applied to the surface. A miniature two-pole wooden ladder is attached to the central level. The piece is finished in a white slip with hand-painted details in black and terra cotta slips. The underside is signed in black ink CORRINE ACOMA, N.M. The second item is a polychrome storyteller figurine from Jemez Pueblo, crafted by artist Linda Lucero Fragua. The seated female figure is depicted with an open mouth and holds five children and a lamb on her lap, all of whom are also shown with open mouths. The figure is decorated with traditional slips, wearing a red blouse with bow accents and a cream-colored skirt embellished with black and red geometric step patterns. The hair is tied in a traditional bun with a white tie. The base is signed in black ink LINDA LUCERO FRAGUA JEMEZ.
Acoma piece: 6.25 inches height, 5 inches diameter.
Jemez piece: 6 inches height, 5.5 inches width.
Condition report:
Both figurines are in excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or visible repairs are present on either piece. The polychrome slip decoration remains vibrant with no significant wear. The wooden ladder on the Acoma piece is intact and secure. Minor surface dust is present from display. Clean, no smell home.
