Description
An assortment of blackware pottery vessels, primarily representing the traditional hand-coiled and stone-polished techniques of Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, along with one example from Mexico. Included in the collection is a wide-bodied jar by Margaret Tafoya Gutierrez featuring a tapered neck and a band of carved geometric motifs, incised Margaret Tafoya Gutierrez on the underside. A tall vase by Stella Chavarria features vertical fluting on the neck and deeply carved Avanyu or water serpent motifs on the body, incised Stella Chavarria Santa Clara on the base and accompanied by a printed biographical slip. A circular bowl by Veronica Naranjo displays deeply carved stylized foliate designs and is incised Veronica Santa Clara on the base with a corresponding artist label. The collection also features a globular jar of Mexican origin with matte-black geometric and stylized pictorial designs on a polished surface, signed Gomez and bearing a Hecho en Mexico label. An additional small bowl with a rounded base and a trilobate rim features minimalist carved linear accents on the exterior.

Condition report:
The collection is in overall excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible on any of the vessels. The highly polished surfaces are well-preserved, with only minor scuffing noted on the underside of the small unsigned bowl. Clean, no smell home.
