Description
A hand-painted Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jar with a matching domed lid. The vessel is decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a consistent fine crackle glaze throughout. The decoration features a traditional birds and flowers motif, depicting two birds perched upon flowering peony branches. The jar is of ovoid form with a short neck and an unglazed rim. The underside of the base features a hand-painted mark in an orange-red pigment consisting of a single curved loop. Small stray marks of blue pigment are visible on the body.

Condition report:
The jar and lid are in stable condition with an intentional fine crackle glaze throughout. Visible iron spots and minor glaze pitting consistent with traditional kiln firing are present on the surface. Surface grime and staining are noted on the unglazed rims of the jar and lid, as well as across the underside of the base. There is a small, shallow chip on the interior edge of the jar\'s unglazed rim. The blue pigment exhibits minor bleeding in heavily saturated areas of the painting.
